Twenty local workplace cafeterias recognized for healthier food choices and food safety

Twenty workplaces in the KFL&A area are being recognized by a provincial health promotion program for their hard work in providing healthier food choices, improved food safety, and their commitment to a smoke-free Ontario. The winners include 1 Gold and 19 Bronze Eat Smart! Workplace Awards of Excellence.
“The goal of Eat Smart! is to contribute to the reduction of chronic disease and food-borne illness in Ontario,” said Rachael Goodmurphy, public health dietitian with KFL&A Public Health and coordinator of the Eat Smart! Workplace Program. “The program seeks to meet this goal by increasing the awareness and knowledge of healthy eating, making healthy choices easier by increasing the availability and profile of healthier foods, creating and maintaining partnerships for health between community members and public health practitioners, recognizing those with excellent food safety practices, and supporting the importance of a smoke-free Ontario.”
